Available DogsIf you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please read about NEARR's Dogs and the placement process. NEARR specializes in matchmaking. We know our dogs very well through speaking with the previous owner or shelter, doing a careful evaluation, and evaluating the dogs further while they are in foster care. We then get to know our applicants through a thorough questionnaire, interviews, home screenings, and reference checks. We have never accepted applications for a specific dog. Instead, we've always matched applicants up with the appropriate dog based on our knowledge and experience.
Coco
Age: 5 years old My name is Coco! It’s not the most unique name for a chocolate Lab, but it suits me just fine. My foster mom says that I am a good dog, spending most of the day in my bed. I am definitely a people dog. I get very excited to see my foster parents when they come back after leaving me for a while … so much so that my teeth chatter from sheer joy! In my foster home, it was discovered that I actually like older kids. An eleven-year-old, dog savvy boy came to visit and I was very well-behaved with him. I had been surrendered to a shelter prior to coming to NEARR because I wasn’t very good with the small children that lived with me. My foster parents have noticed that I have a strong prey drive. I like to chase cats and I am definitely not fond of small dogs. It might be best if I am the only pet in the house so I can soak up all the attention and not have to share the attentions of my new family. Because I have some degenerative joint disease, it might be best if I go to a home with few to no stairs. My joint pain seems to be lessening and I am more mobile as my foster parents gradually increase my exercise. I am sure that losing some of my excess weight will help me be more comfortable, too. I am a fast learner - I know “sit” and I am learning “stay”. My leash manners still need work but I pull less after I go potty! I would love to go to obedience classes because I’ve been told they hand out lots of food when you’re good at following directions. I’ll do anything for a little piece of food. If you are looking for a snuggle bug, then I’m your girl. Please consider meeting me to see if we are compatible.
Nessie
Age: 7 years old My name is Nestle, but everyone calls me Nessie. I am a 7 yr old pedigree chocolate lab. I am spayed and come complete with a microchip. I love to do all the usual Labbie things like play fetch and swim every chance I get - even in winter when given the opportunity. I do not, however, like to go out in the rain and I am not big on snow either. So I am calling out to you couch potatoes. Please help me. I am not much of a walker. My foster mom is a really nice person and takes good care of me, but she makes me go on these long walks everyday! I would much rather just play a little fetch and stay inside the nice warm house. I am good with company and children. I will admit that I do not play well with other animals. I promise to keep your yard free of any four-legged animals. In closing, I am looking for a forever home where I can be part of your family.
Lekoda
Age: 9 years old I'm Lekoda and I'm just the sweetest girl! I've lived with cats and other dogs all my life and get along just fine with them. I don't chew things, jump up on people, counter surf, dig or get on furniture. In fact, I wait for a command before doing anything, even eating. My foster mom can leave me at home with run of the house. That's good, because I don't like to be crated. I've never lived with children, but I've spent time with them and loved them. I'm GREAT off-leash. I'm a velcro dog and love nothing more than to be right by my person. I love to go for rides although I need some help getting into an SUV, but I can get into a regular car ok. I also love running outside with my canine foster sibling. My foster mom has been taking me for two long walks a day, which I enjoy, then I'm ready for a nap.
I am afraid of storms and my foster mom has used a Thundershirt on me, as well as using homeopathic remedies whenever a storm is forecast. She also puts on a nite lite for me, pets me and helps me stay calm. I am on a non corn, high protein diet which is best for my age group, and I am perfectly happy getting my nails trimmed and ears cleaned—I am a real girly girl! I am used to being with my people most of the time, and my ideal home would be with a retired person or couple that is still active and likes to walk or with someone who doesn't work or can take me to work with them. Another dog would be good but not necessary. My foster mom says I'm a great dog who likes all other dogs and people too and who deserves a good home. Please don't pass me over because of my age, I'll be a wonderful companion and reward your care with lots of love Lekoda qualifies for NEARR’s Foster-to-Adopt program. Missy
Age: 8 years old Missy qualifies for the NEARR Foster to Adopt Program Have you always wanted a lab but you were worried that you did not have enough time time to housebreak a puppy or have hours to exercise a dog? Why not consider an older dog like Missy. Missy is a happy girl who always has a smile on her face. She enjoys short walks around the neighborhood. She follows commands and walks nicely on a leash. Missy has a calm temperament. She is a survivor of the tornadoes in western Massachusetts earlier this year. She actually slept right through them. Missy is a great companion. She is happy riding in the car or lying in the yard watching you do yard work. Missy settles down quickly in the house. She is at home curled up at your feet. She does not climb on furniture or take food off the counter. Missy eats a wheat and corn free diet which is readily available in pet stores. She has had ear infections in the past and would benefit from regular cleaning of her ears. Missy is a sweet and loving dog who would love to be your one and only. Will you open your heart and welcome her into your home?
Dill
Age: 12 years old Dill qualifies for the NEARR Foster to Adopt Program Dill is a sweetie and very affectionate dog with a waggly tail. She comes when she’s called but doesn’t mind very well with other command. Sadly her family for the last 10 years had to move across country and couldn’t take her with them. She’s great with kids and other dogs. No cats, she is just too interested in them. She is a great companion dog; she makes no demands on anyone, loves everybody and loves attention but isn’t pushy about it. Dill is ready to be your walking partner, encouraging you to share fresh air and exercise with her. She can be your couch partner, waiting to cuddle with you and watch an old movie. Currently being treated for hypothyroidism and some arthritis, for which she takes medicine. Dill also has hip dysplasia though she is still very mobile and is happy to go for a walk around the block or just hang by your side. At 94 lbs these conditions can improve with weight loss. It takes a special person to adopt a dog already in the twilight of her years. When we open our hearts to an old dog in need with lumps, bumps and graying muzzles, we know that our time together will be all the more precious. Are you that special person? The rewards of loving a senior are great indeed. She will give back tenfold. Dill does qualify for NEARR’s Foster-to-Adopt program. To learn more visit http://www.nearr.com/foster2adopt.html
Dexter - Adopted!
Age: 2 years old My name is Dexter! I am young and energetic. My favorite toy is my BALL. I can play fetch for hours and hours if you would let me. When I first arrived in NEARR, I wasn’t very good at dropping the ball when I brought it back; but I quickly learned that the faster I dropped it, the faster my foster mom or dad would throw it again. Oh, boy! I’ll do just about anything – sit, wait, come – if there is the hope that I can chase my ball! Although I am young and energetic, I do settle down nicely after a little fresh air and exercise. When I am not outside playing, I enjoy being in the house lying at the feet of my people keeping their feet warm. In my previous home, I lived with older children and cats. I have some experience living with dogs, but until I came to NEARR, my experience was limited. I enjoy the company of humans more than the company of the other four-legged creatures. I have never been to obedience school, but I think I would enjoy it and learn quickly if there was lots of positive reinforcement. Do you have time to exercise and train a big, goofy boy? Do you enjoy snuggling at the end of a long day? Then I am the dog for you. Please make arrangements to come and meet me.
Frannie - Adopted!
Age: 10 years old I'm a super sweet girl named Frannie. I'm a low maintenance girl who has lived with a young child who could do anything to me- take my food or toys away, crawl on me- with no reaction. I'm crate and obedience trained, I love to cuddle and go for walks and play outside. I am allergic to corn so need a corn free diet. I'm living with a canine foster sibling and we're getting along very well. I have not been in my foster home long, so watch for more information as my foster family get to know me.
Hailee - Adopted!
Age: 7 - 9 years old Hi! My name is Hailee and I am a sweetheart! I'm not boasting - I'm just telling you what everyone says when they meet me! I am a sweet girl, on the smaller size which makes it easier to snuggle on your lap! I love to give kisses and get attention - my tail never stops wagging. I'm a gentle girl and get along with everybody. When I meet people, I do tend to jump up and try to give them kisses. My foster folks are working on that trying to make me understand that not everyone wants one of my kisses. It's hard though cause I am such a happy girl and want to say hello to you. There's some question on my age - while I may have the white fur of an older dog, I don't act like a senior dog. I love to play and go for long walks. In fact, my previous owner used to take me for two-mile runs and/or walks. No stiff hips here! I'm currently living with two other labs and I have no problems keeping up with them. In fact, I'm usually the one who starts the games - I love to play "try and steal my ball" with my 3-year-old foster brother. When I first came into my foster home, I slept in my crate. My foster parents have lots of doggie beds though and now you can find me sleeping in a doggie bed right next to my foster dad. I love to be near my people. I admit that I don't always listen. If I'm outside exploring and I find something interesting, I won't come to you when called. Some may call that selective listening, others call it stubbornness. I call it being independent! Please don't let my age stop you from considering me. I have a heart full of love to share with you. Won't you adopt me?
