Raleigh is a five-year-old Labrador retriever. Although he is technically considered to be a yellow Lab, he is actually fox red in coloring. He has been neutered and is up-to-date on all his shots.
Raleigh is a big, goofy, galoot who has found himself in need of a new home. He is friendly and extremely lovable. He adores people and enjoys playing, as well as snuggling. Although his owners love him very much, they are unable to keep him as he has some training needs that they are unable to meet.
Raleigh is looking for an individual or family who is very dog savvy and understands what it means to practice benevolent leadership. He does best when rewarded for his good behavior with lots of praise and treats. He does not do well when training includes physical punishment. Raleigh will do best in a household where the rules and expectations are consistent. Knowing what is expected and having that reinforced helps him remain calm and in control.
Although Raleigh likes playing with other dogs, he would do best in a home where he is the only pet, as he needs to learn more about sharing in general. Raleigh needs daily exercise to expend excess energy and relieve stress. He LOVES to go for long walks and needs someone who can make a commitment to working with him on all of his training needs and what it means to be a canine good citizen.
If you are a calm, confident person with the ability to meet Raleigh's needs, please contact Becky by email at becky_cosby@yahoo.com for more information.

Hey there, I am a 5-year-old retriever mix. If you are looking for tall, dark and handsome with a charming personality, well here I am!
I am looking for a family that includes dog savvy adults and possibly teens. I am a one on one kind of guy and want to be the only pet in my forever home, but I have excellent people skills. Since, I live the life of a loner dog, I am not the dog park type. Did I mention that I am a people person? I am very smart and want my new family to continue my training. I am a cheese enthusiast thanks to my training classes. I love to go for spontaneous car rides and long walks.
I have a powerful sense of smell and my nose will always lead you to something exciting! I do require my new home to have a fenced-in yard, so that we can run around together and play! All that I want in life is a soul mate who will love me to the end of time! LPlease speak to an adoption counselor for more details or call 800-452-0114, ext. 6307 or visit www.cthumane.org.
Sam is an elderly male black Labrador who was found abandoned in a swamp recently. He is a fantastic dog who is always happy! He is currently being fostered in Enfield CT with two other black Labradors and five cats. He gets along really well with other dogs, large and small as well as puppies and adults. He does tend to bark at the cats when approached - I am not sure that he would do anything, but the cats have not stuck around long enough to find out! He does have some health problems and will need a loving home who is committed to helping him live out his days!
Sam is at least 12 or 13, and should weigh about 75-80 lbs. He is currently about 65 as he has a lot of hind leg muscle atrophy from arthritis and a probable spinal issue. He gets around really well, but has difficulty with stairs and needs help going up the three stairs from the yard into our house. He has been on glucosamine and an anti-inflammatory medication since arriving in CT and is able to get around our house really well, even with the hard wood floors. He is also diabetic and currently receives insulin injections twice a day. This seems to keep him quite well, but he will need a thorough vet checkup after he finds his new home! He also has some bad teeth and currently is on medications for an ear infection. He does not let any of these issues slow him down and has an amazing attitude! Everyone who meets him falls instantly in love!
If you are interested in adopting Sam, please contact Sharon Lynch at smlmvb@gmail.com or 860-749-5725.

The Coastal Humane Society is looking for a home for Sasha, a 3 1/2 year old female black lab. She was surrendered to us with a female cocker spaniel on July 1st. The owners said they didn't have time for their dogs. :( The cocker spaniel has done very well, and was adopted out very quickly. But Sasha has not done well in the kennel, so we have been unable to adopt her out. While in her kennel, she growls when strangers approach and she lunges at dogs who walk by. She did live with a cat and a dog previously. She has been great with the people she has gotten to know, and she warms up pretty easily with treats. Her behavior is a lot better once she gets out of her kennel, although she is still timid around strangers.
Sasha would probably do best in home that is fairly quiet. She is looking for a family that has experience with a timid dog and would be patient with her as she learns to trust them and any visitors to their home. Please contact Mandy Fisher at the Coastal Humane Society 207-607-1857 if you would like more information or would like to meet Sasha.

Wanted to Adopt: an active single or family
Hi. I live on the MA-NH border, my name is Carolina Moon, and I'm looking for a person or a family to adopt. I'm 55 pounds of a black lab mix, female, and about two years old. I had a tough early life in North Carolina where I was on my own until I was about 6 or 7 months old. In spite of those early months, I love to play with dogs, I love people, and my family is my life. That's why everybody is so sad here. I have three other dog buddies, and even after two years of trying to help me, when I'm stressed, sometimes I snap at one of the other dogs. It doesn?t happen often, but if I connect with them, it hurts them. I feel bad, but it?s a stress reaction from those early months of being on my own. Someone said I need to be an "only dog".
Mom says I'm an "athletic beauty", "smart as a whip" and a "cuddle bug". I also hear I have a great smile. Doesn't every dog smile? I really love to snuggle on the sofa with my dad and watch TV. My favorite shows have horses, dogs, and other animals. My people are always amazed, because I really do watch TV with them!
I also heard that I'd love agility, whatever that is. But my all-time favorites are playing fetch with that long arm thingie that throws the ball, running off lead in the woods on our walks, and leaping from the dock to swim all round in the lake. If you have a lake in your backyard or nearby, I'd be in heaven.
All my shots & boosters are current, and I have been spayed. Email us here in New Hampshire at cathiepw@msn.com.
Can't wait to meet so you can see me smile!

Owner Dies, Kelly Grieves . . . All Alone!
For this gentle, stunning, 10-years young Golden Retriever/Lab mix girl, her owner was not an "owner", she was her entire world; her best friend; her love and her life. Quite sadly, as sometimes happens, our beloved companion animals outlive us. And, sometimes, not a soul in this world - not family nor friends - will rise to the occasion and assume responsibility for our four-legged partners.
That is what sweet Kelly is going through right now.
Kelly’s person passed away unexpectedly, and no one wants her. No one. In fact, Kelly is still living in the home she shared for so many years with her person. People stop in to feed Kelly and let her out, but very soon the entire home will be vacated, leaving this wonderful angel only one option: a municipal town shelter where the chances of her being re-adopted are slim to none.
Our culture doesn’t hold elderly humans in very high esteem; the landscape is even tougher on companion animals.
Kelly is gentle, mellow, easy-going, trained, vaccinated and spayed - her "mommy" took such good care of her. She is used to giving and receiving love on a daily basis so her advocates fear she just may die of a broken heart.
Don’t let that happen.
If you or someone you know has room in his or her heart and home for a sad, but hopeful girl like sweet Kelly, please step forward. Kelly just wouldn’t survive very long in a cement kennel. Surely, she would rather follow her person to the Rainbow Bridge instead.
Don’t let that happen.

There are always many, many purebred Labs, Goldens, and other retrievers
as well as retriever mixes available at the CACC (Centers for Animal
Control and Care) in NY. These shelters hold hundreds of dogs at any given
time. Often, these dogs are euthanized within days of their arrival.
Unfortunately, NEARR does not always have room for these dogs and we are
lacking volunteers in this area. These wonderful dogs need your help! For
more information, including a list of dogs available, visit: http://www.nycacc.org/
